This bayonet has a very unusual design. It is a socket bayonet
with a flat, 'S'-shaped blade. The socket has a zig-zag slot, no reinforcement
ring. The blade is reinforced on the back. It is very well manufactured.
I have seen this bayonet with the following serial numbers:
7, 30 (my own) and 35. There is also one unmarked. There are no other stamps
on the bayonet
I have been told that there is a photo from circa 1850
of an exercise troop with this bayonet mounted. They where lined up outside
a school, but I do not know the city. I is quite obvious that it is some
kind of school/exercise bayonet.
Any ideas about this bayonet are welcome !
