Knife bayonet for Krag Jörgenssen rifle m/1894 (and
carbine m/1912 ?)
In 13-14 April 1940 the 1st division (under command of generalmajor
Carl J. Erichsen) redraw over the Swedish border. Circa 3000 men were confined.
Weapons and supplies were stored.
After a short time in detention camp they were allowed
to go back to Norway, but the weapons and supply was kept.
In 1944 the first camp was set up to train Norwegian
police troops. They needed wapons, and were given the stored weapons from
the 1st division (4600 m/1894 rifles and m/1912 carbines).
The bayonets had been destroyed in a fire in Örebro
in May 1941 and that is why new bayonets were manufactured.
In 1st August 1944 4600 bayonets were ordered from `Erik
Anton Berg's Fabriks Aktiebolag' in Eskilstuna.
A trial series was made, where 10 to 20 bayonets were
delivered.
They were browned and had no serial number stamped.
The following complaints were made:
-
The blade has to fit more smoothly in the scabbard.
-
The scabbard locking catch was to hard, could not bend enough
(bevegelse)
-
The grips had to be better adjusted.
-
The edges were to sharp on the slot.
The bayonets delivered were blued and had serial number 001
to 4600 stamped on the ricasso.
0001 - 1000 were delivered 9/4 1945, the rest,1001 -
4600 were delivered in September.
The bayonet has the same leather frog as the Swedsih
m/1914.
Controlling officer was the Swedish kapten S. M. Stenmo.
This bayonet does only fit to the m/1894 rifle, not the
m/1912 carbine.
